Invent Online Motion Study Tools
Rhino House introduces a massive online library of cutting edge motion tools for animators. The library and tools push the limits of modern browsers.
Challenge:
Our challenge was to replicate the experience of interactive DVD's on a website. The client wanted many, many video previews available at the same time and with the same type of select to see navigation that customers were accustomed to on the DVD's.
Solution:
Our solution was to use the DNN Framework as a base content management system. From that CMS base we stripped away nearly all the markup and experimented with techniques for rapidly switching image frame to video.
This resulted in a revelation of sorts. We could now efficiently and securely deliver frame-by-frame still images and prepare them for near real-time playback.
And so was born the online motion-tools study program for animators. Many of the feature sets of traditional video editors were then added to enhance the tools for study. Looping, onion skins, keyframe marking, playback speed and frame rates can all be turned on/off to assist animators see fine grain detail of real world video.
Technologies like HTML5 and jQuery made it possible, but the real driving force behind the solution is the patient but 'limit-pushing' vision of the projects owner John Kim.
